Series 2 Episode 8 - The steep and thorny way to heaven

Wolf goes to work; Van goes to the rescue and Cheryl goes to purgatory.

At the police station, DI Grisham is taking a team briefing on some sort of gang ‘summit.’ Judd notices the ‘accountant’ in the surveillance photos but he can’t say a word without getting a hard time about banging Cheryl West.

At the Rusty Nail, Van is with Munter hard at work on a plan to free Aurora from the clutches of the Horsemen.

At the charity office, out the front, Hayden is talking to Judd. No, he hasn’t seen Wolf. Judd notices the ‘accountant’.

There are some lines you just don’t cross, y’know? Never.Loretta

Jethro tries his best to get Van to come back into the fold on the big job. With Van out, Jethro is in for some dirty work. And he’s shit scared. When Van refuses to get involved, Jethro turns sour and tells Van that Mum had been screwing Judd.

Van goes to the station and asks Judd straight up: is he sleeping with his Mum? Judd’s honest response and the unmistakable parallels with his and Aurora’s situation go a long way towards winning Van over.

A police briefing session. They are going to raid the big gang meeting. Judd has reservations. What if it’s more than a meet-and-greet? Grisham assures him they have no intelligence to the contrary – but if, through his close association with the West family, DS Judd has another lead…?

Pascalle is being the happy home-maker at Hayden’s house. But Hayden is in no mood for Pascalle hanging around him when he’s about to pull a job. And where the hell did she get the idea he would marry her?

At the West house, Pascalle crashes in, carrying her bags and in floods of tears. She and Cheryl commiserate over man-problems with several drinks. Loretta joins them. Cheryl reveals she’s been having an affair with Judd. Pascalle bursts into tears and runs from the room. Loretta fumes.

A White Knight takeaway van rolls into the Horsemen’s headquarters. Munter is at the wheel and Van is hiding in a chest freezer beneath heaps of frozen goods. They’re bringing in food for the gang party.

Hayden, Sparky, Wolf, and Jethro watch via surveillance the various gang leaders offload their cash in a common safe as The Accountant inventories the money. Each gang leaves behind one representative to guard the cash.

Soon, the cash guards find strategically placed liquor and dope about the office and set to work enjoying themselves while Wolf and the others set about drilling through the wall adjacent to the safe.

With the guards passed out, Wolf secures the safe and Sparky enters to cover their tracks with arson on a timer.

But there’s smoke! Wolf dashes in and pulls Sparky away. What happened to the timer? Sparky is unapologetic. How else would I get to watch the flames?

They drive speedily off, Sparky activates his cellphone, rigged to kill the building’s power, and the angry gangs are in the dark.

Van hides with Munter and Aurora…before the irrationally jealous Tyson comes to lock his girl in her room.

Van resolves to follow her. He finds a large coat and hat on a passed out gang member, as well as a stray sledgehammer.

The noisy party provides perfect cover – the rescuing hero triumphs and hides in the truck with his princess. Suddenly news of the robbery spreads. Munter joins them in the truck and smashes through the gates. The gangs roar past them eager to recover their cash.

The money divided, Wolf remains to get rid of remaining evidence. A figure steps from the shadows. It’s Judd.

What Judd wants is very simple. He wants Wolf out of his life. Forever. Lest the Horsemen get an anonymous tip as to who ripped them off…

Judd and a uniformed officer arrive at the West house. A car has been found, out in the bush, burnt out. A car with possessions nearby that belonged to Wolf.

Cheryl and her daughters take in this news.
