Series 2 Episode 15 - O God!
When the least likely person finds salvation, Cheryl stands to lose; and Pascalle decides she needs to be born again.
Outside the retirement home, Grandpa sits with none other than Wolf. The brain surgery thing was a piece of piss – and Grandpa is more interested in talking about Wolf’s plans. Wolf tells him he’s nearly ready…
Judd meanwhile, comes into an interview room to find Sparky waiting for him. Sparky has seen the light, the burning light, and wants to make a full confession of his sins….all of them.
I am a pus filled boil, festering under god’s all seeing eye – withering in his hatred.Sparky
Later on, Judd alerts Cheryl and produces the confession, which hasn’t yet been filed. Sparky has spilled his guts. Van and Jethro face prison.
Cheryl immediately goes to find Sparky. She discovers him on a West Auckland street corner preaching his own peculiar version of hellfire religion and trying to scare a few souls into repentance. Perfect. Cheryl has just the soul who needs saving.
Van sulks. He can’t see why it’s always him who gets stuck with nutbar Sparky. Cheryl explains that the alternative is jail if they don’t keep Sparky from telling the world about a certain robbery. Aurora offers to help babysit the arsonist.
Next, Cheryl appraises Hayden and Jethro of the problem. Do something lawyer-y. Once she leaves the boys confer. What if it’s just a scam, so Sparky can get his mitts on their cash? Best to do nothing. Though Hayden is planning to keep his passport handy.
Back at his place, Sparky sermonises. If Van truly loved and appreciated Aurora – he would look to the sanctity of marriage. And there’s something about all this that is starting to get to Van. Aurora interrupts with a lesson of her own on Jesus and how he’s really into forgiveness.
The next we know, Sparky arrives at the pub ready to beg forgiveness. Oh look, there’s Tyson…
Cheryl and Judd are in bed. She is pleased that he’s with her – because she knows his life would be a hell of a lot easier if he wasn’t. Judd doesn’t feel good about crossing the line, but he feels it’s too late to go back.
The next day, Aurora and Van arrive at Sparky’s but God’s latest foot-soldier is nowhere to be found. Munter clues them in: he saw Sparky at the Rusty Nail, keen on apologising for everything bad he’s ever done. Tyson was there.
Cheryl arrives home to an empty house. Entirely empty. Of furniture, clothes, everything. Cheryl gets out her cellphone and dials the cowardly bastard who can’t clean his own mess. Wolf doesn’t answer, but her message, to say the least, includes updates on the current state of affairs at home.
Aurora and Van, meanwhile, go to see Tyson, who admits that yeah, he cleaned out the West house. All the stuff is on its way to Whangarei to furnish the Brotherhood’s new club house. But he never touched Sparky.
Later, Cheryl is taking deliveries from Eric of the world’s most tatty furniture and skungy mattresses, when Sparky arrives, very keen to gain her forgiveness. He tells her about his new plan to build a church deep in the bush, where he will not communicate with anyone other than God. Cheryl thinks it’s very nice that the Lord has stumped up with cash for Sparky – but Sparky contradicts. It wasn’t the Lord – it was Wolf.
Meanwhile, Van has come to something, a realisation. He loves Aurora, and not just because of lust, or sexual parts. And he wants to marry her.
That night at the house, there’s a bit of an impromptu celebration of the big news – that Van and Aurora are engaged! Judd is off the hook at the station as Sparky is gone. Eric’s brought the bubbly.
We go outside the house, as the noise of West partying continues. But it’s a house which is very definitely being watched.
Elsewhere, Dr Bruce has something he needs to tell Pascalle. He’s a virgin. Pascalle tells him that’s fine – because as a matter of fact – she’s a virgin too!
After a not-too-helpful chat with Loretta, Pascalle girds herself to tell Bruce the truth. But after it slips out that she loves him, she can’t bring herself to admit her earlier lie.
Pascalle genuinely wishes she could be a virgin again, because then she could erase all the horrible guys she did it with. Loretta suggests that there are options available – there are all kinds of surgery and enhancements.
If Pascalle is ever going to marry anyone, she wants it to be Bruce and she wants to be a virgin, a fully reconstructed genuine virgin.
