Contagious Blastments
Van’s memories of Aurora are so vivid that he can’t believe she’s dead. He’s managed to convince himself she’s in hiding – as Cheryl goes to try and make peace with Pam so that the Wests can attend the funeral. This fails spectacularly, as Pam blames Van for causing her daughter’s death. But none of the Wests can believe that Van would dob: a West never does. Munter, however, is hiding misgivings.
Hayden is the unlikely source of the solution to funeral details and resolving Van’s state of mind: running old folks’ homes means he has connections in the funeral business. Van is taken to view Aurora’s body, but this doesn’t bring him peace. And when he finds that she is to be buried, he is beside himself. This must be stopped; it isn’t what she wanted. But since the family seem unwilling to help, he corrals Munter to aid in his own arrangements… This involves stealing a boat and firewood and taking Aurora’s body from the funeral home. Munter freaks to discover that Van plans a do-it-yourself Viking send-off, as Aurora wished. But now they find that they’ve stolen the wrong body, and Munter finally confronts Van that he is only doing this out of guilt. Van admits his dobbing, but Munter will not help him commit further desecration and they part on very bad terms.
You don’t see dead people, dude, unless it’s a movie.Munter
Cheryl, meanwhile, is still trying to get Judd out of jail. But when she finds his latest lawyer is useless, she gives him short shrift. Judd isn’t impressed. Cheryl, desperate, asks a reluctant Jethro for a recommendation, and while doing this, meets Gary.
As Grandpa remains staunch in his defence of Van, Hayden is deeply unimpressed to find he’s a body snatcher, and even less keen to crash a gang funeral to defend West family honour. Loretta tells him to piss off then.
On the new day, Grandpa and West associates are gearing up for funeral-crashing, when Van is found to be missing. He’s discovered by Jethro. Van admits his crime against West honour, which means he is cursed and can never go home. Jethro defends his twin to the family, but Grandpa now wants Van out of the house. To settle the matter, Cheryl again girds Pam and Tyson, to find that there are no excuses for Van’s behaviour. She apologises for Van; then brings him home. Munter is discovered upset for his own part in all this, but Kasey persuades him to return for Van and Cheryl’s hour of need: they’ll be doing the send-off for Aurora at home.
At the send-off, Gary is a surprise arrival and offers Cheryl a recommendation for a gun lawyer – plus a loan if Cheryl needs it. She doesn’t take him up on the cash, but is impressed. As Hayden shows up, beaten up, Loretta realises that he does care after all. And, while extracting Grandpa from self-imposed exile, she discovers the truth behind the West family curse.
Having organised a Viking tribute, Munter now delivers his best man’s speech as a eulogy. As a result, Kasey sees him in a whole new light, which leads to funeral bonking. Loretta and Hayden are similarly engaged, as Pascalle returns, annoyed that everyone was too busy partying and getting rat-arsed to pick her up.
Van, meanwhile, watches a rowboat burn, and agrees with Grandpa that he is cursed forever.
