Series 3 Episode 2 - While The Grass Grows
Van and Munter go green; Grandpa sees red; and to stay in the black, Hayden finds a man with enormous potential.
Cheryl finds Grandpa has been torturing Judd, who’s been beaten up in jail. Even worse, his court date is three months away. All in all, she has to get him out.
At the Janet Frame, the staff threatening a walk out due to Grandpa’s bad behaviour, Hayden now wants Cheryl to take Grandpa home. Cheryl refuses, and Grandpa comes looking for the showdown – where Cheryl finally bans Grandpa from the house. He insists she has only herself to blame for Judd’s fate. When Loretta defends Grandpa, Cheryl makes him her responsibility. But this isn’t a word in Loretta’s vocabulary, and anyway, she’s way too busy trying to find a leading man for her erotic film…
Munter has a trouser snake of anaconda proportions.Hayden
But, as fate would have it, a solution appears, to Hayden in the bathroom: Munter in his full glory. Hayden is impressed with the credentials Munter could bring to their porn film. Loretta remains unconvinced and is confident that Munter won’t agree.
Cheryl is dismayed to find the lawyer is only too happy to drop Judd’s case. But as she goes to visit Judd, there’s a fresh bombshell: he’s been sent drugs in jail. Cheryl goes to confront the architect of evil, only to find Grandpa has passed on from the Janet Frame. He’s been expelled, after the unfortunate death of a fellow inmate. Grandpa shrugs this off: he’ll now return to his real home. Loretta knows this won’t go down well with Cheryl, and naturally, it doesn’t. Especially as Grandpa now reveals his master plan to restore family order: a broken Judd will come to his senses, and dump Cheryl. Cheryl is all the more riled, and Loretta sees that if she’s to broker world peace, and get Grandpa somewhere to live, she’ll have to stand up to him.
Meanwhile, as Aurora works two jobs for the wedding, Van’s noble gesture to save money on drugs is: growing dope in Grandpa’s caravan. Sadly, the plants are too small to smoke, so Van cracks and decides to use the grocery money to buy some pot. When this plan is foiled, Munter hits on the idea of dope futures trading. At the same time, Munter is being harassed by Hayden who wants to meet up. Munter fears some kind of gay thing going on here. As Van and Munter go to get their plants, they find them destroyed. Van blames Cheryl for the slaughter of the innocents (though Grandpa was the culprit). Cheryl can’t believe that he’d do something so stupid as to grow marijuana at home – especially when she’s trying to get Judd home. Van doesn’t see this as likely, and this fuels her increasing self-doubt.
Despite Munter’s worries, Van thinks they should meet Hayden, if they can score some dak. And Hayden finally reveals his true intentions. Despite the ethical issues of his sisters’ involvement in porn, Van tries to convince Munter. But Munter is deeply concerned for Loretta’s moral welfare. So concerned, that he’s prepared to tell Cheryl – which would be a major dent in Loretta’s plans. She manages to buy off Munter, then beards Cheryl, only to find her full of self-recrimination. Loretta effects a reversal that moves Cheryl, and saves the day for Grandpa. But Grandpa’s actions haven’t been entirely futile: as Cheryl now feels that maybe Judd would be better off without her. She offers him the out, but he isn’t about to take her up on it.
Van and Munter, happy at last, have the cash they need to score – only to find the tinny house is run by scary Tyson. But there’s worse to come for Van: because helping Tyson is none other than Van’s princess, Aurora.
