Series 3 Episode 15 - Bow Stubborn Knees

Loretta reels before a nemesis as she faces her future; and Cheryl fears her nemesis is still pulling strings.

Cheryl has a clandestine meeting with Lloyd Draper, our man on the front line of finance. The reason? She needs cash to repay Gary’s loan and plans to take out a mortgage on the house. She’s thrilled when her request is granted – until she finds she’ll need Wolf’s signature. Jethro is confident he’d never agree, and is appalled she signed up without reading the contract. He goes to fight on his mother’s behalf, but gets short shrift, particularly as Gary still suspects Jethro of assisting Danielle. But Jethro has deeper fears, that this could all be to do with Wolf.

At least I know the Cantonese for “stick it up your arse”.Cheryl

Cheryl meanwhile finds Kasey hasn’t been crash hot at reading contracts either. Her attempt to be a resourceful business partner has landed them with an entire container of leopardskin velour, which needs to be paid for. With no other option, Cheryl decides to beard Wolf in Waikeria Prison – only to find he’s already been released. Furthermore, he’s seen Grandpa and Falani, and gone off, lord knows where. When Jethro learns this he finally reveals that there’s a connection between Gary and Wolf. Maybe this is all a set up. Cheryl is evasive with Judd, then confronts Gary. Are he and Wolf in cahoots? Gary claims the opposite: Wolf screwed him over once and this was an attempt to get back at him. Gary insists he’s not about to take Cheryl’s house, but offers another way to pay off the debt: a share in Hoochie Mama. Cheryl, who’s tired of being manipulated by blokes, on and off screen, turns him down. She still has a few weeks to find the money. With Grandpa stirring the pot about the spectre of Wolf, Judd is suspicious of where Cheryl has been. She reassures him with the partial truth that she was sorting out the fabric disaster. And she’s come to a decision: if and when Wolf ever reappears, she wants a divorce.

Jethro meanwhile tries to woo Danielle, who keeps turning him down. This only makes Jethro more determined. When she won’t go out, he takes dinner to her, and makes an impassioned appeal that wins the day.

Loretta meanwhile has found the perfect location for Video Hut 2 – but unfortunately it’s owned by the fearsome Mrs Haggerty, her former Irish Dance teacher, who loathes Loretta. She sends Pascalle to try and sign up the lease, but Mrs Haggerty is onto her in a flash. Loretta is forced to confront her nemesis. Mrs Haggerty is delighted to see that Loretta is pregnant and uses this against her. She still hasn’t forgiven her wayward pupil for crushing her dreams and running out on the Under Nine Nationals in 1998. Loretta smarts at the implication that a baby will slow her business plans, but finds Pascalle agrees. Feeling that time is running out, Loretta’s determined to get this shop – but finds the only way that Mrs Haggerty will agree is if she does the dance she was meant to do at the fateful competition. So Loretta, refusing to be beaten, does the dance: a gruelling battle of wills as Mrs Haggerty demands perfection. In the end, Pascalle calls a halt to this travesty, and Mrs Haggerty finally allows Loretta to take her shop.

But out of all this Loretta has realised something much more important. No way does she want this baby anywhere near her life. She is going to adopt it out.
