Episode 20

Is it any wonder I don’t want to bring up a child in a world where you get blackmailed by your own freakin’ social worker? How wrong is that and just what the hell is this country coming to? Next thing we’ll have MP’s up on corruption charges, the way the rot has set in.

And before anyone starts getting all high and mighty on my arse, let me say two words to you: supply; demand.

Supply and demand is how our world works. Sure, maybe it’s not a perfect system – especially if you’re in, like, Darfur where the demand for food and water way outstrips the supply; while the supply of nutjobs with machine-guns is streets ahead of the demand. But supply and the demand (aka capitalism) is the system most of the world works by, so unless there is some genius out there who can come up with a better system (where even Saint Bono has failed) then supply and demand is what we’re working with here.

So, it follows, I happen to have an over-supply of babies by a grand total of one baby. Out in the world there is a great demand for babies, by people who cannot supply their own. Therefore, it further follows, quite logically, that my supply is someone else’s demand, so everyone wins and if I happen to gain some financial recompense for my time, effort, pain, suffering and having to go to the toilet every twenty bloody minutes, then where is the harm in that?

Why does everyone get all moral and outraged just because there is a human life involved and money may happen to change hands?

Supply. Demand. It’s very simple, people.
