Series 4 Episode 13 - Your chaste treasure

Grandpa seeks a missing jewel, but Loretta fears he’s in danger from a femme fatale. As Kasey’s fatal flaw riles Cheryl.

Grandpa is having worries about losing his mojo, as he runs into Ngaire Munroe. She confides the bitter loss of a precious family heirloom: an emerald called the Duckeye of Rangoon. Grandpa finds it’s with a jeweller, Johannes Van Sturmer, and offers to steal it for Ngaire for a price. Judd is concerned to know what the old man is up to and Loretta becomes a reluctant accomplice to case Van Sturmers and find the make of the safe: the Pegasus. Grandpa gets a Pegasus on appro, but Loretta is worried that Grandpa has met his match with this modern safe, and she doesn’t trust Ngaire. She is certain this will be a double cross. Grandpa is already aware of that possibility and now confronts Ngaire with the fact that the Duckeye was never a family heirloom. Ngaire admits it wasn’t, but claims that Van Sturmer reneged on a deal. Loretta wants Grandpa to bail as well, but now spots a strange sexual tension.

Nothing like a bit of anticipation, to get the vital juices pumping.Ted

Grandpa reveals that he and Ngaire went out many aeons ago, but he dumped her because she never came through. Loretta now sees a more personal angle here: Ngaire is planning revenge on Grandpa because of love scorned. Ngaire denies this, and insists she dumped Ted, not the other way round. She also ups the ante, because she’s heard the Duckeye is to be sold tomorrow. Loretta is jealous and scared that her only friend and ally will end up in jail, so she pleads with Grandpa not to go ahead with the job. Desperate, she goes to Judd who also suspects that Grandpa has plans. Together they intervene, to find that the safe has been returned, and Grandpa claims to have come to his senses. This turns out to be completely untrue and he’s still expecting Loretta’s assistance. She feels she has no choice. He and Loretta break into Van Sturmers. But as Loretta waits in the car, she hears an explosion from inside. Loretta fears it’s the end of Grandpa, but now he appears unharmed. He conquered the Pegasus with old fashioned methods. Now Grandpa reveals that his real motive for the robbery isn’t cash: he wants a root from Ngaire. She isn’t about to come across so easily, but Grandpa is holding an ace – and knows what Ngaire is up to. The Duckeye would be worth much more with the earrings that went with it – except these went missing some years ago. Grandpa knows that Ngaire had them – because he’s broken in and stolen them. Now there’s more enjoyable haggling and bargaining. It doesn’t seem that Grandpa will get his root, but he has regained his mojo and his morning glory.

Meanwhile, Munter and Van find that Kasey is on with Dane Harris. Aaron Spiller feels that action needs to be taken, but Munter just takes his anger out on Aaron. Van is warming to Aaron and his car parts, but Munter now blames Van for encouraging him. Cheryl is also appalled to find Kasey is on with Dane, but Kasey’s logic is that she’s just cutting out the middle man in the Bahama Triangle. Cheryl starts to think there’s nothing to be done, until she finds that Dane has stolen Hoochie stock. Cheryl ain’t impressed. Kasey takes on Dane, but as he talks her round, Aaron steps up to defend Munter’s honour. Aaron is rescued from a bad beating by Judd – but now Van feels that he and Munter are honour bound to take on Dane because he beat up their mate. Munter still insists Aaron isn’t their mate, but Van persuades him with the argument that it’s really for the car. But as Kasey is wavering about Dane, she now finds he’s been beaten up, so she can’t leave him. Aaron takes this as a sign that Van and Munter really are his mates. But we now find that Nicky was responsible, and he did it for Cheryl, perhaps. Pascalle is grudgingly impressed.
