The dramatic scene at the end of Outrageous Fortune’s fifth series left viewers aghast.
After an angry Cheryl attacked dodgy cop Zane Gerard with a broken bottle, he pulled a gun from his holster, firing three shots in the direction of the West matriarch and her daughter, Pascalle.
As the credits rolled, viewers were left wondering who had died and who had survived.
Fans went crazy speculating about what exactly had happened. Did Gerard kill both Cheryl and Pascalle? Did a besotted Aaron Spiller dive in front of Pascalle, taking a bullet for her? Or was the whole thing a dream Cheryl had?
“What’s so amazing about those diehard fans is that they give it an enormous amount of thought,” says Robyn.
Since the end of Outrageous Fortune’s fifth series, Robyn has fielded countless questions from fans desperate to find out who is dead.
“It’s been such a big deal, right from the moment it went to air,” Robyn says.
Despite being out of the country when the episode screened, that didn’t stop curious people from approaching her.
“I was on holiday in Noosa with my kids and sister,” she says. “The publicist rang me and said the reaction had been huge. [The show] was the most twittered thing internationally for something like 36 hours. I don’t know anything about Twitter but I knew that in the world of TV drama, it was significant.
“Two nights later I was at the supermarket in Noosa with my brother-in-law, and a Kiwi guy who lived there came up to me and said ‘I’ve just been talking to my friends in New Zealand and I’ve just heard what’s happened. Tell me, tell me, tell me’.”
On her way back to New Zealand, Robyn discovered airline crew on her Brisbane to Auckland flight also wanted some information.
“The staff were absolutely gorgeous. I wasn’t in business class but they came up to me and said ‘Would you like a glass of bubbly?’ I was like, “Yeah, thanks. It’s been a really long day so far. I’d love one’. So I had a glass and we sat on the tarmac for a bit and they said, ‘Do you want another one?’ and I thought ‘Oh my God. They’re so generous.’
“After a wee while, one of them came over and sat down next to me and he said, ‘So do you die?’. “He said, ‘We saw your name on the flight and we thought, ‘We’ll just ply her with a bit of champagne and she’ll open up’.”
Outrageous Fortune co-creator and writer Rachel Lang says people have also begged her to reveal which characters are dead.
“There have been stern worlds and inducements to reveal all,” she says.
While she won’t give away any secrets, she has this to say about the first episode of the new series: “It will reveal all about who is alive and dead. And introduce a new character and also drop a bombshell.”
She’s similarly vague about what’s in store for the series as a whole saying there will be, “Some new directions, some new romances and some characters being seen in quite different places.”
Since filming for the sixth series ended last year, Rachel has been busy concentrating on other projects including the third series of Go Girls while Robyn has found work on both sides of the Tasman. She has played an East Auckland housewife in a New Zealand film about go-kart racing called The Hopes & Dreams of Gazza Snell, while in Australia she has had a small role in a film called Burning Man and guest roles on television shows. But for now, along with many New Zealand viewers, Robyn is looking forward to seeing the first episode of Outrageous Fortune’s final series.
And it seems the viewers are in for a bit of a surprise.
“The one thing I can say is that [despite] everything that people have come up with so far, no one’s picked it yet,” she says. “No one’s got it 100 per cent right which is great. It’s an amazing tribute to the writers actually and despite the fact that the audiences are really connected to the show and they really don’t miss a beat, the writers are one step ahead.”

i still reckon cheryl is dead...there's so many more indications that she is rather than isn't:
1. close range gunshots
2. robyn had other acting commitments
3. robyn was out of the country when series 6 was in the early stages of filming
4. it's [reported to be] the final series so it wouldn't matter if the series was without a major
character & star
5. all of the ads have undertones (some not even that sublte) that cheryl is dead
sure, it could be that all of these things are made to make us think cheryl is dead & think nah, they're doing this to make us think so but really she isn't (smee explained this better)...there is such a thing as double bluffing.
of course, if she isn't dead & stays undead then i'll be one happy lil' pukeko... -

What are her guest roles in tv shows? hmmm tamar, spill!!! Are they in NZ or Aus? -

Robyn was in nz at the early stages of filming because i went to a talk her ,james and rachel gave and she was talking about how since they have started filming series 6 the little girl who plays jane has grown up so much and has little diva tantrums over what to wear, im not saying that means she is alive . -

But your right, Michael Bay released false info about Revenge of the Fallen.
Maybe James and Rachel Griffin are doing the same, but I doubt it. -

- cheryl in jail, hospital or death

- loretta living at hayden's with jane
introduce a new character:
- new detective or lawyer (this is standard OF isn't it??)
drop a bombshell:
- cheryl survives & goes on the run with wolf -

Man i bet the relief will be HUGE for the cast and crew when the show finally goes to air and they can STOP listwening to people badgering them about what happens. It must have been driving them nuts for months now...no wonder Robyn Malcolm left NZ!!!
Im going with... series one episode one. When Cheryl told Wolf the family were going straight...he leaned across the table in the jail...and strangled her...and the entire program has been played out ion Cheryl's coma....and being shot by Gerard will actually wake her out of her coma....and she will be pissed off cos Judd is still trying to arrest her entire family, and she hasn't shagged him at all. -

Ever heard of a TV show called "St. Elsewhere"? Six seasons of hospital drama, and on the very last episode, they revealed it was all an autistic boy's fantasies. That was a bombshell.
Or "Newhart"? Eight seasons of comedy at a Vermont inn, and the very last couple of minutes revealed it was all a dream in the main character's PREVIOUS TV show.
And I almost forgot Bobby stepping out of the shower on "Dallas," cancelling an entire year without him.
So a dream would be in good company. -

Or how about Aurora just about to get hit by the bus, she sees the future up until the stabbing, flashback to her getting hit by the bus in hospital in a coma, survives, wakes up, her and Van get married, she warns the Wests about the Gregans, Jane is still born
, the twins are never conceived, Cheryl is more careful with her pregnancy years later and the baby is born healthy and they all live happily ever after.

You guys blow my mind. All this dream sequence rubbish. Wasn't the first ever scene of OF with Wolf and Cheryl waking up? Uh oh, it could all be a dream... maybe the raid with Judd in the first episode was the begining of Cheryl's dream. Everything that happens will all part of it. Like smee2004 said, she never would have had this steamy affair with Judd... It could be awkward the next time she sees Judd, still with that bloody moustache I presume?
If it does turn out to be a dream, then OF will be pointless. I will never be able to watch any of it again without yelling at the tv "it's all a dream"!!!!! Hope that doesn't happen! -
