Don't treat this like a silly question because I'm seriously confused. Clearly they are identical in looks (for obvious reasons), but in the first episode when Judd was talking to Cheryl he said "what with them being identical and all" and then Cheryl responded "They're not identical". Why would she say that if it was true? So are they supposed to be fraternal twins who just happened to look alike, or what was the reason for Cheryl denying that they're identical? -

They are classified as identical.
But in Cheryl's eyes they aren't identical [Exactly alike] because she can tell the different between the 2.
Cheryl probably doesn't even know the difference between identical and fraternal. -

Ouch! You're a bit harsh on her spiderman. I always assumed she only said that they were not identical to annoy Judd who kept on hassling her family. -

It could have been the writers playing with us so that it would take us longer to figure out that they were played by the same actor?
Or one of the many inconsistencies that were picked up later on, for instance in the later seasons there were a few changes in people's names compared to season 1, ie bert thompson. Could it just have been a slip up? -

I always thought that it was just that she could tell the difference between the two so Cheryl didn't classify them as identical... and to annoy Judd.
Hmm I haven't seen the early seasons for ages but Louise could you please remind me - what was the change in name for Bert Thompson?

Bert Armstrong. Season 1 is currently playing in NZ, you should be able to pick it up. -

You're a true OF sleuth, Louise. Would have never picked it up! (Unless someone's name got changed from Budd to Judd in mid-season.) -

That's me kaks! I was going to say call me Detective Lu, but it has a bad ring to it lol.
Someone a while ago mentioned that there was an anomaly in the age gap between Ted and Rita. Ted mentioned she was part of his 16th birthday shenanigans, but if that actually happened and you look at the age gap between them that we were told further down the track, Rita would have been a baby, if born at all! However, Ted was loopy at this stage with the brain tumor, so the writers could have easily blamed that. Point is, the facts often change to suit the storyline. -

Okay so what's the verdict? Do you, personally, think Jethro and Van are identical (one egg) or fraternal (two eggs)? -

Well Van has a lightning bolt tatt on his finger you could tell them apart from that and Jethro's hair is shorter and prettier than Van's or more clean cut i would say

Didnt Jethro say in season six to Bailey something about it wasn't his fault that they were born as identical twins? It was in relation to what Judd had said to him about being the father of the little twins? Correct me if I'm mistaken?? -

Jethro and Van are identical twins. if they were not, they would use two different actors. In Season 1 when Cheryl replies that, "they're not identical" - I think she means personality-wise. Even though physically the same (identical), they are two completely different people.
