    Does anyone know anybody who actually lives in a house that looks like this? I mean seriously. It's a 70s time warp. Or is this what houses in West Auckland are actually like?

    Yeah I know people with flats like that out west... The best bit is that retro wallpapers are coming back in vogue!

    I worked on a TV series last year called Our Place that involved making over an out west house. It was heaps like the West's even the same wallpaper....Then we discovered the house belonged to Ewen Gilmore's grandparents at one point...You can't get more west than that!

    It is a house out in Te Atatu North i can't rememeber i was told the address but can't remember.
    But i was born and raised in West Auckland went to West Auckland schools, A LOT of houses are just like that it kinda scary how abosulelty similar to it.
    Although my house doesn't look anything like it although it was hand built, but ah yeah just take through Henderson and you will see the houses like that every where.

    Yes. My old place in Avondale was pretty much identical. Except the carpet was grey, not brown. And there were some holes in the wall.

    having lived in west auckland, i loved seeing the house on the series. it is SO westie and to me, a very accurate representation of what some of west auckland's houses look like. seeing the courthouse is great too, and other areas around west auckland. they are generic enough that they could be pretty much 'anywhere', but actually recognising a location is just totally awesome. i think it adds a sense of realism to the series. even though we all know it is 'just' a tv series, it's also important (in my view) to get details as accurate as possible, and the house and the surroundings are definitely an example of that. great going !!!

My sister and I are going to Aucks this w/e to see Varekai and would love to take a trip to see the house, and get some photos of us standing outside it!     I cracked up when my name was used on OF... although I didn't have a crime dad, and I don't own any retirement villages :)

    Well, the address has gone from Wikipedia, and what with Pookinas suggestion that due to it being a private residence, might as well respect the owners of the house...

    The house used in the TV series Charmed is also a private home, but it still has tourists and fans flocking to it in Los Angeles daily. Whats the difference? All we want is a couple of photos just to remember an awesome TV series, and to be able to say "we've been there"

    Yeah My Aunty is Jan Fisher who played Mrs Doslic on it Draskas Mum and she brougth the same carpet as in the west house coz she said it felt nice and it would look nice in her own house hhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaa

    Geez guys - Its not THAT important if you know where the house is. It would suck so much if the people that lived there stopped allowing filming in the house because some idiot was going roound telling people the address just so they could get photos of it. Its only a photo! If you really want it to see it so badly just keep re-watching outrageous fortune cos you get to see it in every single episode!

    As so many people have said already - the West house is very typical for West Auckland. There are houses like that all around the Glendene / Te Atatu area - why not take a trip Out West to have a look at the whole shebang? The courthouse in Henderson is a public place, for instance, and has been featured on the show; maybe take a photo of that?

    Pity that we can't go to the "real" house for photos, but ah well...
    In the end - what's more important? A nice photo or OF?!!!!

    My dads mates mum lives in the house! i agree on the privacy thing coz they get pissed ppl constantly go round looking!

    anyone know who the contractor was who built the house?

    i would love to have blueprints of the outer dimensions to build a retirement home. change up the internal layout, but i do like the way the house looks externally.

    lol its funny walking past the house coz there is usually randums outside taking photos! some people even went up on the deck and had afew drinks once, it was in our local newspaper coz the neighbours were complaning!

    The Ruby & Rata house I believe is in Mt Albert, Auckland off Mt Royal Ave (runs parallel to Owairaka Ave), go up from the Mt Albert rd end. As for the location of the West house, my friends live down the road from it and since it's in use currently I won't give out those details...I have taken a photo of it and could post it somewhere that takes images if anyone wants.

    The West house is seriously about 5 minutes away from my house..

    They show is mostly filmed in Te Atatu, which is where the West house and the house Wolf and his girlfriend were doing up..

    Also alot of house look like that out here in the West, my house is rather similar..

    I love Outrageous Fortune.. Me and my friend are buying the "ToolGuys" shirts to walk around in, i'm told I look quiet alot like Van :)
