Elizabeth Hawthorne

A veteran actress of both stage and screen, Elizabeth Hawthorne established her career in theatre, starring in a number of plays including King Lear, The Cherry Orchard, Winter’s Tale and As You Like It with the Corporate Theatre (1974 – 1984), Mercury Theatre (1984 – 1992) and Auckland Theatre Company (1992 – 2003).

Elizabeth’s talent for theatre performance landed her a Theatre Actress of the Year Award for As You Like It in 2000.

Elizabeth has since starred in a number of films including Alex, The Frighteners, Jubilee, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe and 30 Days of Night.

She also starred in Savage Honeymoon; a role for which she won the 2000 Nokia Film Awards Best Supporting Actress Award.

Elizabeth is also a well-recognised and experienced television actress. In 1995 she had a year-long stint as Doctor Julia Thornton on the weeknight serial drama, Shortland Street. She also starred in a number of television productions including Hercules, Greenstone, Market Forces, Lawless, Cleopatra 2525, Xena, Mercy Peak, Spin Doctors and Burying Brian.

Most recently, Elizabeth starred in the South Pacific Pictures telefeature, The Man Who Lost His Head and in the 2009 feature film, Underworld 3.

When she’s not busy acting, Elizabeth works as a teacher at an Auckland secondary school.
