John Laing

John Laing began work as film-maker at the New Zealand National Film Unit, Wellington in 1969 as a writer/director/editor of documentary films. Since starting out in the industry he has directed and produced some of New Zealand’s most acclaimed film and television productions.
This is the second time John has produced a series for South Pacific Pictures. In 2001 he produced Mercy Peak and by the close of 2003, 60 episodes had been made over three seasons for TV ONE.
As a director, John’s film credits include Beyond Reasonable Doubt, Other Halves, Dangerous Orphans, Absent Without Leave, The Lost Tribe, The Shirt and No One Can Hear You. He also edited the feature film, The Race to the Yankee Zephyr, directed by David Hemmings.
For television, John has directed extensively in New Zealand and overseas. His credits include: Power Rangers, Orange Roughies, Street Legal, Jacksons Wharf, Jack of All Trades, Duggan, Cleopatra 2525, Greenstone, Tiger Country, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, Xena – Warrior Princess CoverStory, Plainclothes, Mysterious Islands, Roche, Inside Straight, Marlin Bay and Songs for a New Country for TVNZ, The Hitchhiker for HBO and Ray Bradbury Theatre for Atlantis/USA Network.
He has also directed five telemovies in the Swiss Family Robinson series (Cloud 9), the Australian telemovies Cody: Bad Love (Southern Star-Xanadu/Channel 7) and Singapore Sling: The Road To Mandalay (Barron Fims/Channel 9).
